Diaphragm walls and barettes
Diaphragm walls and barettes are in-situ poured concrete elements, created by excavating vertical trenches using specialized mechanical or hydraulic diaphragm wall excavators.
During the excavation process, the trench is filled with a specially designed support fluid to ensure the stability of the trench walls. After reaching the final depth, the trench bottom is cleaned, reinforcement cages are placed and the support fluid is replaced with concrete. By placing several diaphragm wall panels next to each other, an impermeable and earth-retaining wall is created. Flexible joint profile provide improved watertightness between the individually poured panels. Barettes on the other hand, are single panels that are capable of absorbing enormous vertical forces.
CB walls
CB or 'cement-bentonite' walls are sealing walls that stop groundwater flows in order to isolate contaminants or limit the impact of drainage of construction pits on the environment.
Similar to diaphragm walls, they are formed in the ground by excavating a trench under support fluid, which will harden in CB walls and form a water cut-off wall.
